The A/V Club was sponsorsed by a math teacher and populated by afficianados of Dungeons and Dragons. The rewards of membership were the almost super-human ability to operate highly technical audio visual equipment, such as casette players, overhead projectors, and sometimes even reel-to-reel movie projectors. The A/V Club members may have existed in the hinterlands of the darwinistic school hierarchy, but they were the only people who could save school assemblies and year end concerts from the technophobic bumblings of the teaching staff.

Time marches on. The geeks from my highschool grew up to be engineers and programmers, their spiritual descendants today play World of Warcraft online, and the overhead projector has mostly gone the way of the mimeograph and the dodo. Little did I guess in highschool that one day I would marry a geek of my very own. Life is full of surprises!

We know that we need to pull up our A/V socks around here. There haven’t been many photos up lately and there won’t be for a while. We are on vacation in Montreal for the long weekend (hooray!), where we are so busy eating our way across the city that there just isn’t much energy for photo editing when we get back to the hotel (late!) at night. We are definitely having lots of adventures (les grands aventures) and taking lots of pictures (beaucoup de photos): we just can’t find enough waking hours to get it all into the computer.

We’ve also received requests from “visually-oriented people” to put up more maps to show just where on the planet we are.  We’ve actually been logging (most of) our driving with a GPS tracking unit. The challenge is to incorporate maps into the site in a way that doesn’t cause technical problems, like making the site load really slowly.  Neil is on the case, and we’ll get you some maps as soon as we work out a few more bugs.

We’ll get our A/V socks pulled up and post some photo updates when our holiday is over and we’re back to our regular schedules, and eventually some maps, too.
