We've started asking, specifically—especially since the hotel that advertised free wifi, and it turned out to be only if you were sitting by the pool.

Since I'm working from wherever we are, internet in the room (doesn't have to be wifi, but it has to connect) is critical. It still seems new, some places; the instructions sometimes tell you how to plug your laptop into the data port in the phone...

I just found this list. Thanks! This is so helpful.
Kathy, I agree. £25 per day is insane! I had a similar experience at another London hotel, there they charged £20 for a day. That's just too much! I love checking into a hotel and discover they offer free wi-fi throughout the building and in all rooms - that makes my day!

Spell-checking is overrated. It's much more interesting to get a Freudian glimpse of your dark side

Ouch, Kathy, I feel your pain.

On a recent trip at a Hyatt, one of my co-workers got billed twice for checking his email on his laptop and his blackberry. He got it taken off, but I have issues with anybody who would nickel-and-dime their customers like that. Once you have the components installed, WiFi doesn't really cost anything to run. And it certainly doesn't cost you more based on how many machines connect to it. Charging for WiFi is sort of like charging for tap water.
